There’s something truly magical about a wedding that not only celebrates two people in love but also beautifully blends the traditions of two worlds. Olivia and Simon’s June wedding in Europe was exactly that … a heartfelt celebration nestled just outside Simon’s hometown of Bratislava, Slovakia, on a charming farm near Vienna, Austria.

What makes this day even more special to me is the story behind how we connected. Olivia actually grew up in my neighborhood, and for years we passed each other in school hallways without knowing the future we’d share. Years later, she reached back out to me to capture one of the most important days of her life—and I had the joy of traveling alongside them for this beautiful celebration.

From the moment we arrived, the day felt like stepping into a storybook. The ceremony took place surrounded by lush fields of fragrant lavender, creating a serene and dreamy atmosphere that perfectly matched the summer warmth. Olivia and Simon exchanged their vows in this intimate setting, embraced by family and friends from near and far.

What made this wedding so special was how it balanced tradition and casual joy. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a long, relaxed cocktail hour without any formal agenda … just genuine mingling and laughter. It was during this time that the American tradition of cornhole made its charming debut, as Olivia and Simon taught their European guests this fun lawn game. The spirit of connection and curiosity was palpable.

Portrait time was an adventure of its own. Olivia and Simon took a leisurely stroll through Bratislava’s stunning cityscape, blending the elegance of their wedding attire with the historic beauty of the urban surroundings. These moments captured not only their love but the unique blend of cultures that this couple embodies and the town the groom grew up in.

The evening reception was a lively celebration of Slovakian customs, featuring traditional line dances that had everyone on their feet … locals and visitors alike. In turn we taught the locals there country line dances, too! It was a joyous reminder that weddings are as much about community and shared experiences as they are about the couple.
